Dance Teacher staffing agency, Kiner Enterprises Inc., publishes The Kiner Enterprises Inc. Report, an in-depth annual survey and analysis of pay rates and trends in the Dance Teaching Industry in New York City and the New York Metropolitan Area. 

  

  

“We wanted to offer the dance community a neutral source of information regarding what is really happening in the dance teaching industry in the New York City Metropolitan area. We are able to offer a unique perspective based on our extensive work in the dance teaching industry, while providing dance studios with qualified dance instructors”, stated Ashani C. Here are the average salaries, and current trends in the dance teaching industry in New York City, and the NY Metropolitan area, as of Sept. 7, 2009: 

  

 

Average dance teacher’s hourly pay rate, for teachers with less than 5 yrs experience in NY Metropolitan Area: 

 

$41 per/hr

 

 

Average dance teacher’s hourly pay rate for teachers with 5 yrs or more experience in the NY Metropolitan Area: 

$59 per/hr

 

 

Average dance teacher’s hourly pay rate for teachers with less than 5 yrs experience in New York City:     

 $35 per/hr

 

 

Average dance teacher’s hourly pay rate for teachers with 5 yrs or more experience in New York City:      

 $50 per/hr

    Thanks for the wage stats. The hourly rate is good, but how much do they make per year? If they only teach 10 hours a week at $50/hr, that’s $500/wk times 50 weeks, it’s only $25,000/yr. Are those rates before or after taxes, by the way?

    It definitely varies based on the amount of classes one teaches per/wk. Maybe in this year’s report, we’ll include the percentage of dance studios that treat their teachers as employees vs independent contractors. Of course, as you know, independent contractors pay their own taxes. While employees have their taxes withdrawn from their payroll check automatically. Thanks for such good questions Linda! We’ll keep this in mind when we do our second annual report this year.
